Fabric Rosettes made from scratch

A few weeks ago I was in the mood to get crafty. I wanted to figure out how to make cute headbands and clips for my baby girls' hair or rather lack there of. Now obviously I think she is cute ta boot! But at this age if I don't put a little somethin' somethin' in her hair, she easily gets mistaken for a boy! Thus the reasoning for making headbands and clips!;) I had a picture in my minds eye of how I wanted them to look, I just didn't know how to make them! So what did I do??? Well I googled it of course! And the mamamonster blog came up! She has a fabulous, plain and simple tutorial on how to make fabric rosettes. And guess what Ladies!!!! NO.SEWING.REQUIRED! Just your choice of fabrics(broadcloth works best for fraying), scissors, glue gun and you are in business! So thankyou, thankyou mamamonster for the awesome tutorial! And for helping us less than creative left-brainers be a little more right-brained! Loved and still loving every second of making these cute fabric rosettes!
I had so much dang fun making these rosettes I was up well after my bedtime experimenting! Getting a little crazy after hours, I know.:)

Now once you have your rosettes made, putting them on headbands and clips is just as easy! All you need is 1/8 in braided elastic(in white, black or nude), small snap-on hair clips and gator clips and felt for the backing! All of the above can be found at JoAnns or any other big craft store!
For headbands:
1. Wrap the elastic around your little girls head to get the right size. Give yourself 1/2-1 inch of extra length for the purpose of overlapping and glueing(with glue gun) the two ends together.
2. Put a strip of glue on the back of your rosette and attach it on top of the part of the headband that you overlapped and glued together. If making a head band with two rosettes, do the same with the second rosette and just make sure to glue it on the elastic, butted up against the first rosette!
3. Cut out a small strip of felt and glue it to the back of the headband for a more finished look.

For hair clips, dab a generous amount of glue onto the back of the rosette and press onto the clip. If using snap on clips, make sure the clip is in the open position, otherwise you will glue the clip closed! This two rosette clip that my niece Elle is wearing was made using a small snap-on clip.
A gator clip was used for this big rosette in Indee's hair!

I love this idea! Eliza was wearing one of the headbands you gave her and I couldn't help but look at it and see if I could do it on my own. Thanks for posting the tutorial!

So, so cute! Love these! I bought some that were similar from Anthropologie and they fell apart by the 2nd wear. I'm making my own from now on!
